Hi Guys,
I’m back! Did you miss me? I sure missed this space.
Well, my week was interesting. I had some funny recording mishaps. The biggest one was when I went to record a full script. I did all the reading with the different voices, and I felt happy, but you can never guess what I realized after: I DID NOT HIT RECORD!
I know, right?!
Another day in a voice actor’s life.
This got me thinking that before I ramble on in this blog about voice overs, voice actors, or voice acting, I feel like a clear understanding of who we are and what we do is needed. Trust me, every voice actor is a unique artist; most have a niche based on the strength of their voice.
As International Women’s Day just passed, I will use this opportunity to give a big shoutout to all female voice actors who are holding it down for us.
We appreciate and value your artistry and thank you for gifting the world with your voice.
Two of my favs are;

What is a Voice Over?

A voiceover is more than just words spoken into a mic
It is the art of breathing life into words, transforming silent scripts into stories that speak, ideas into impact, and brands into voices you recognize instantly.
It’s the unseen performance that sells, informs, and entertains. From the thrilling tease of a movie trailer to the friendly guidance of your GPS, or the persuasive pull of a commercial, or in the inspirational narration of stories, a great voiceover doesn’t just speak; it aims to connect, captivate, and convince.
In its truest and purest form,
A voiceover is the power of storytelling, bringing together words, emotions and tales in perfect harmony.
Who’s a Voice Actor?

A voice actor is a storyteller without a stage, a performer without a spotlight, a master of invisibility heard, never seen, but impossible to forget.
We are storytellers, emotion-weavers, breathing life into characters, brands, and narratives with nothing but our voice. From soothing narrations to warming tones of audiobooks, or is it the excitement of video games, or a persuasive charm for commercials, we don’t just speak, we script into experiences you can hear, feel, and connect with.
We embody, enchant, and turn words on a page into an unforgettable experience.
Can Anyone Be a Voice Actor?

Well, technically, yes. If you have a voice, you can speak; you have a starting point.
Being a voice actor isn’t just about speaking into a mic. It’s an art that blends performance, technique, and emotional connection.
It takes training, vocal control, and the ability to bring scripts to life in a way that resonates with an audience. It’s about storytelling, adaptability, and mastering the art of emotion. It takes practice and vocal control.
In truth, you won’t land a major role overnight, but with dedication, practice, and persistence, anyone with a passion for storytelling and a willingness to learn can find their place in the world of voice acting.
So, the real question isn’t ‘Can anyone do it?’—it’s ‘Are you willing to put in the work?’
I got my first paid voice acting role on Upwork for $10 per script of 800 - 2000 words. It was not much, but it was a start. It boosted my confidence to take voice acting as a professional career.
Is Voice Acting a Good Career?

Hell Yes! If you’re willing to work for it.
Like any career path, it requires passion, persistence, and patience. Voice acting is a dynamic profession that blends creativity, performance, and business savvy. It has endless opportunities, from animation and video games to commercials, audiobooks, and beyond.
Your voice becomes your brand, and your ability to adapt, perform, and connect with audiences determines your success. It’s competitive, so you need consistency and training.
Good News! The demand for skilled voice actors is higher than ever before
With the explosion of digital content, podcasts, and AI-voice work. The best time to hop on this crazy train is NOW!
Let’s not forget the fact that;
Voice Acting is fun; you can work remotely and travel the world, and it’s an incredibly fulfilling and lucrative career.
SAY MONEY! MONEY! MONEY!
How Much Do Voice Actors Make?

It depends.
On average, beginners earn from $30,000 - $50,000 annually.
Especially if they’re booking smaller gigs like local commercials, audiobooks, narration or e-learning courses.
Experienced professional voice actors booking large projects make 6-figures annually.
The beauty of voice acting? You’re in charge of your income, with opportunities to scale up.
To scale up try diversifying your portfolio, increasing your voice range and versitility and adding new skills. The more markets you can tap into (radio, TV, video games, AI-generated voice), the better your money game.
So, it is not a get-rich-quick path, but with hard work, persistence and being true to your personality, voice acting is a very rewarding career, both financially and creatively.
I hope this helped new voice actors or aspiring voice actors understand who we truly are.
